A drawer a day - edited

So I have decided to tackle and tidy one drawer a day. This is one of three in my sideboard. It's supposed to be just cutlery. As you can see, I like to collect battery operated tea lights and black biros. This is the tidiest drawer of the three. Knives and forks are now re sorted and tidied. Mats are in the correct place and I shoved the tealights and pens into different drawers to be tackled another day! I am going to invest in a different cutlery storage system because the one I have is rubbish! It's too small. This cutlery is our 'best' family silver*. We got it when we got engaged 24 years ago. Well the newest set on the white box is only a few years old but is a set of 4. Supposedly replacing the   stuff I have in the kitchen...yet to happen. I know this will set the teeth itching of many of my minimalistic bloggey friends! I like my stuff and I'm not bothered about making space. That drawer is my space for cutlery, so that's what it has in it!! No after photo because the dark brown table mats are on the top of the cutlery so nothing can be seen anyway!
im just typing this out by the lights of my tree and my favourite favourite favourite film is just ending. The Vikings. Blooming brilliant. I always hope though that Kirk Douglas will beat Tony Curtis at the end!!

OOOOOOODDIIIINNNNN!!

Lots of love from

Ok ok here is the after pic - with placemats removed so you can see. You can see fish knives in their original plastic wrapping. I’m working class and Northern ffs, what the hell do I need fish knives for?!! I must have been so pretentious back in the day. What’s that? Get rid?? Nooooo, they are part of the full set and the equally unused fish forks need them!!!

  1. Drawers are made for mess, as you know I am a bit tidy and like to keep things in their place, but I need a messy drawer for all the odd things which I can't throw away or be bothered to move to their correct place. We got a cutlery tray from B&Q, for the kitchen drawer, it can be cut down to fit, but the trays are huge, just saying !!

  2. I love The Vikings too, I remember watching it when I was little and was just transfixed by Tony Curtis and Kirk Douglas!

  3. OMG....another 'separated at birth' thing going on......that wallpaper on your wall....I used to have the exact same one on my dining room wall. It would still be there if Ruby hadn't been a wallpaper picker when she was a toddler.

    Neat drawers....come and do mine.

    1. Some might say my decor is dated, but luckily for me I don't care what people say! I still love my lounge and dining room - Eileen Grimshaw on Corrie used to have it in her front room on the street!!

  4. Ah, Rachel, you have made me laugh today. I did a similar job on our 3 sideboard drawers earler in the week because I’m a bit poorly, with no energy, but going stir crazy. It’s our kitchen drawers that really need cleaned-I think it’s a teacher thing to hoard stuff as we know we’ll need it sometime. Very well done one your weightloss- what an achievement. Catriona

    1. Thank you Catriona - it's a work in progress! My kitchen drawers are very tidy having done them out before Christmas with doing the kitchen. It's just every other drawer in the house!

  6. I have way too much cutlery that was added ti earlier this year. When we have a party it all gets stuck in a jug on the table(no need for plastic). And we have another set that only comes out a Christmas. It looks very nice but ever so cheap and nasty.

    1. We do the cutlery in a jug thing! Never plastic either! No hardship to washing a few knives and forks!

  7. Laughing at you shoving the bits you don't know what to do with in another drawer for another day - that's exactly what I do. You've reminded me of a cutlery set we were given for a wedding gift - used and loved over the years but as often happens with cutlery most of it has got lost over the years - anyway it had a set of fish knives in. I have no idea where they went but also being from oop north and having no need for them, I could have thrown them in one of my de-clutter frenzies. Hope you're going to show us the rest of your drawers! xx
