Out the blue I received an email from a different parent and wanted to document it here.
Obviously I've taken out names and any identifying pointers but the sentiment is clear.
And yes you were all so right with your much appreciated messages of support.
School is shut on Tuesday due to the Teacher's strike. So that means 13 'nasty get ups' left!
Most of the staff are equally as knackered and I know non education workers can lament on and on about people who work in school always being on holiday...but unless you are in that mentally draining environment which gives you a different tiredness to physical tiredness, you truly don't and can't ever understand! I do love my job and will miss my class bigstyle. Don't tell them - but after two years of dishing out equipment I've got them all a personalised pencil with From Miss 'Radiostar' on them!
Anyway, the email...
I just wanted to say how grateful I am for your amazing support. We couldn't have got this far without the support you have given and are still giving both my child and me. I honestly don't know what I would have done if you hadn't offered your unwavering kindness and support. My child will do brilliantly at high school and I have you to thank. Their confidence and self esteem is amazing me at every step of this transition process. They're growing into an amazing young person.Please remember how much of an impact you have had on my child. read your previous post and am utterly disgusted with the way some parents act. Have seen this sort of moron first hand, they are quite simply, scum. They way they acted speaks volumes about THEM and not you. But horrible to have to deal with, so you have my sympathy there.

DeleteThe doglet... We've been uhmming and aaaahing for years on and on and seriously for the last few weeks. Last night. I RANG UP ABOUT A PUPPY!!! But...only to go see and make tentative enquiries..... Isn't it sweet though. Look at its widdle nose and its widdle ears and its widdle fwuffy feet - oh dear am smitten! I know it'll grow. And I know they are expensive and then they leave us - sniffle but... I'll make me get off my backside and go walking!
What an exciting entry. Love the craft thing, love the hint, love, love, love the email. I have a memory box that I put letters, cards, etc, like that into so I can keep them for ever. So encouraging and so cheering. Well deserved too - well done.

I don't do it for the praise but it does make you feel good inside! If a little embarrassed!!! The puppy is adorable.... I'm 99% sure we'll have it!

ReplyDeleteIt feels to me those other sad parents sound like awful bullies and very controlling and are probably jealous because you managed to reach inside their child and give it some confidence and belief that it doesn't get at home. The way you described it I think that child knew exactly what the parents were doing, hence the reassuring waves. You've shown the child there is a better way.
Do I detect some puppy brooding ...?

ReplyDeleteAwww very cute puppy. Hope you don't mind me saying but from one good bloggy friend to another think very carefully before you get one. We've got 2 and I wouldn't do it again. We're more tied down to them than the kids now. Unless Amy stays home we're on a time limit for days out and impromptu overnight get aways become a no-no as well. If Amy is around, she's on a time limit for getting back to let them out. For longer holidays kennels don't come cheap and ours always come out with funny tummies (as you know from all my recent blogging about it!) Honestly, if I had older children who were independent I wouldn't do it. It's like having a baby again, only you can't take them everywhere with you. But if you do get one, post lots of pictures because they really are cute :) xx
Thank you for your honest advice. We have been thinking it over for a long long time. years in fact. The cons do still outweigh the pros which is why we are still a doggy free household, however, we are seriously considering it. So close which is why I rang up about the puppy!!! We didn't like how the lady was on the phone which has put us off !! So the photo is all that we've seen so far...
DeleteBut now we have total child free freedom, we can nip off willy nilly when we like. We can go out for days with no worries.
Holidays are no probs because we only holiday in the uk and where we stay always have pet friendly options. Dogs on leads are welcome at a lot of EH sites. And we have a Mr 19 desperate for one - company for when we abandon him every weekend!!
There's the expense too to consider etc and the poo, worms and doggy farts....
But I'd have to get off my bum n take it for walks. Someone would be pleased to see me no matter what, someone would keep my feet warm in Winter, someone would look so photogenic infront of my coal fire, someone else to love ...
Aargh decisions decisions!!!
What flavour is your soon to be squishy kissy pup. It looks a bit like a spaniel to me (my favourite) or a labrador my second fav.

The right one will fall into your lap. Teddy came to us from a rescue centre as a pup and Poppy was born in a stable on a farm. Ted ran straight to me and Pop went straight to our youngest. What's yours won't walk past you xx
