Cold hands, warm heart.

That's what my beloved Nanna used to tell me. Well, as I blog away here in my radiator less bedroom with open chimney in it, I'm reckoning my heart must be at blast furnace temperature.
Thank you to all those who mourned the passing of Little Theo in my last post.  He is buried at Miss 22's inlaws. Though I rather fancy she was seriously considering a state funeral, with the cavalcade driving slowly cross country to our house so he could be laid to rest with the remains of all his predecessors in our hamster cemetery. Maybe she thought people would line the streets and throw mini flowers like forget me nots at the car!

The red boots are still in the house and I may wear them today! I don't feel too Christmassy yet. I've bought a few presents but no wrapping done alas. It's not December yet anyway. But I can't wait to get my tree up. I've bought some teeny led lights on copper wire to wind in amongst my Kitchen silk flower display I've got going on on the window sill. It doesn't sound attractive but it's beautiful turquoises and I love it! I bought the lights at Asda after looking at them for weeks. I went to Asda for a top up shop last night. £70 just for basics. The HG is eating me out of house and home. I have set him with the task of meal planning next week. He complained and moaned but I said I a man sick of thinking what to have for tea all the time. It does my head in. I am quite happy , in fact, I adore eating left overs, but he has never ever done it with me. I think it stems from him having the same pan of stew on the go for the week when he and his dad had a bachelor pad together!
So far his suggestions have been - and I laughed because he started off by saying "and I don't want chips"
Cottage pie
Spag Bol
Mince pie - a plate pie, with chips and peas!!!
Hmmmm.
That's it so far. Well that's mince on the shopping list so far....
At least his appetite is back!

It's his birthday on Saturday, so once that's out of the way I can think about Christmas. The tree might go up earlier this year as it's Mr 19 who will be getting it down out the loft. I've just got to pre Christmas clean first. Furniture out and skirtings cleaned etc. That's a job for Sunday. The day of rest!!

I have made some Christmas sausage rolls though. They are in the freezer. I don't know if I showed you them already. Half of them I mixed the sausage meat with half a packet of pork and mushroom pate. Just to see. Oh my stars it was delicious!

Right, I must away to my chores*

Lots of love from

  1. LOVE the sausage rolls. I'm afraid I was lazy and just took the skin off some nice sausages to make mine!
I had a chuckle at the menu list!

    1. I use sausagemeat from the local firm, who sell it in slabs. It's the same as what's in their sausages and I have been known to do as you do too!

  2. My hubby is eating me out of house and home too. I always seem to be preparing food for him to shovel in. I know it sounds cruel but I think I am ready for him to go back to work now...lol.
Those sausage rolls look awesome. I might try that for something different-x-

  3. I'm glad you kept the boots! Enjoy them. Sometimes (not very often though) I will pre-plan my suppers for the week before grocery shopping. I'll even do a quick inventory of what is already in the freezer and the pantry so I can think of what to make with what I already have. Also glad to hear that HG has his appetite back! -Jenn

    1. I do that too sometimes Jennifer, but often, I get in from work and cannot. E arsed to cook what I was going to, so the ingredients get shoved in the freezer! Hence I always have a good store!

  4. I saw those lights too - very pretty. They will look lovely in the flowers with them being so delicate.
I feel your pain with meal planning. It's so frustrating trying to think what to cook night after night. I could do with a live in chef. It would take all the stress out of it andthen I wouldn't mind doing the washing up.
I am going to have my first mince pie this evening. I have put it off for long enough. It's finally time to start feeling Christmassy.
We make festive sausage rolls too. I put cranberry sauce in the middle of ours. Delicious.
I hope all is as well as can be with the HG.
    Much love Rachel. Xx

  6. Great progress if HGs appetite is back, even if he is eating the cupboards empty. I am glad it is not just me who is fed up of deciding what to eat each night, mine is less use than useless. When I ask the answer is invariably "I'm easy, anything you fancy will be fine" which is man-speak for "can't be bothered, I just want to find a hot meal in front of me and I can continue to believe the cooking fairies exist"

    1. ZOMG YES JAYNE!! The 'I'm easy ' speech gets trotted out here, but then we get looks of disapproval at every suggestion made!! I'd be quite happy with summat on toast, or cheese n crackers etc but the HG doesn't think they are proper meals!

    1. It was a spur of the moment addition to the sauaagemeat as we'd had pate for lunch the day before and half a pack just sang to me. Thanks for the love xx

    ooh, red boots. Fancy!

  10. Absolutely hate thinking what to cook day in, day out. It's so bad that sometimes my first thought of the day is what shall I make for tea. When I've decided it's like a weight off my shoulders. Maybe there was something to be said for the good old days when you knew what day it was by what was put on the table.

I'm very impressed with your pre-Christmas cleaning, especially as you've included skirting boards and also your homemade sausage rolls look delicious. Hope HG has a lovely birthday. Are you celebrating in style or taking it easy? xx

    1. We had a very easy day of it but didn't have to worry about the daily 'what's for tea' dilemma. As I pulled rank and we had a dirty kebab takeaway! It was HEAVENLY! And no washing up! Bonus.

  11. Sorry to hear of the passing of Little Theo.

Those sausage rolls are the real deal aren't they, I bet you're popular when they're offered around! I think we may attempt some cinnamon rolls today or tomorrow, I really want them for breakfast at Christmas but I've never made them before, so this is a trial run!

    1. At the cafe I worked at people used to order cinnamon toast. I'm laughing now as I recall it was actually, toast, sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon!! I don't think that was a real recipe??? I'm off to google it now.
