Curtains!

Or Curtain Poles!
Many many moons ago, (19/05/15) so eight moons technically speaking, we went to worship at the altar of Dunelm and bought new bay curtain poles to replace our ancient, brittle, fragile and failing Swish pulley corded curtain and pelmet track. It's served us well! It's been repaired now too many times. And despite declarations of 'it'll only take me an hour or so' by the HG, those magical 60 or so minutes had yet to materialise...
Until this morning!
I think it's my Valentine's present!
The old track is down, the new pole is up. Yes, it did only take the HG an hour or so. It took me considerably longer to unhook the dusty curtains AND linings, stuff the metres of 90 X 90 cotton into the washer, dither about pegging out v shoving them in the dryer, opt for the dryer but bitterly regret it because the fecking things kept just rolling into one big ball, iron metres of curtains AND linings, put hooks back in to curtains and linings and then hand them back to the HG to put back up - much crinkling occurred. However, I have to say, betwixt the two of us, my window area ( the HG cleaned them too )  looks lovely!

We honestly wondered if the curtains would make it through the washing process. We expected ribbons of shredded material erupting from the washer. ( By the way, I'm laughing my head off here about the way I'm writing about my curtains!!!! How VAIR interesting and topical!!! )
The sun really streams in and the inner edges are almost bleached white! Those white edges are now at the sides! They'll be good enough for another few years! I'm not one for change. I still love my decor.
Here's a very interesting photo of my very interesting curtains.

Laughing now because I'm leaving it there!

Lots of love from

  1. Is that a slight gap near the top where the two curtains meet? I could never relax with curtains in such a state.

    1. There was..when I quickly snapped the pic, but please know it bugged me greatly! It's now fixed, all curtainage is aligned correctly with zero gappage. Gaps left in curtains is a HEINOUS crime. Punishable by death, in my view.
Apologies for any uncomfortable feelings caused by my photo. You could always try the gap in curtains helpline.

    1. Actually Bridget, that's an outrageous slur! I was always going to blog about my new curtain pole - it was a big thing to me! I was also going to waffle on about work and other such happenings but decided not to.
It's my blog and I'll write about my curtains if I want to, curtains if I want to, you would blog too if you'd waited 8 months for a curtain pole to be put up tooooooooo.

Remember there is the helpline available for all affected by my blog.

  6. Well I really enjoyed your curtain post because we don't have one single set of curtains hanging up in our house. No siree, not one. It's the way I like it. I don't live in a goldfish bowl, I do have blinds, but it must be 10 years since I've had any curtains hung up. Oh I'm telling a lie there is some white voile in our bedroom, purely for decorative purposes and even taking that down, washing it and re-hanging it gets on my nerves. xx

    1. Years of watching my mum and nanna wash iron n pleat net curtains back up made me vow to NEVER EVER EVER have nets. When we redecorate ( and that's a long when ) I'm having blinds!

  7. I showed my husband your post and he laughed like a drain. We are volunteers with an older people's charity, and the job he is most often asked to do is to hang curtains or as they are known in our house"feckin curtains". He is off to a sheltered housing flat tomorrow to do just that. When we bought new curtains two years ago, guess who had to hang them herself? He was most impressed-we have the poles not track-but sadly I feel that may have been a mistake as I suspect I will have to do it aleays now. Catriona

    1. Lol you prob don't know, the HG fots double glazing for a living and his MOST hated part of the job concerns taking fecking curtains and tracks down and then putting them back up!! I'm laughing again now!!!!

  9. Have you been reading my mind about how much I want new curtains in my bedroom, and how I dread dealing with the curtains in my livingroom? I never did do them properly (that being, some kind of liner first and then the curtains), so I have very sun bleached alternating striped on the insides of my curtains (and a fair bit of cat hair where they would rub while moving from back of couch to windowsill). So, instead of doing something, which is too overwhelming, I do nothing at all. I will live vicariously through you! -Jenn
