Half term Wednesday

Halfway through the holidays already. It's going too fast.
The day started as per. Up with the larks to see the menfolks off for the day. I'd stripped my bed and cleaned the kitchen by 7am. The birds were fed, not that I've seen many lately. I had the day to myself. I caught up with Stella. It has to be one of my all time favourite TV shows. I adore the characters in it. Especially Aunty Brenda. I'm missing Dai Davis this series though. I also cracked on with a couple of episodes of The Walking Dead. It's a new to me boxset, seeing as I'd finished the enjoyable romp through Falling Skies with Dr Carter offa ER.
I just love telly! I have it on whilst I knit and stitch! I finished the waistband of the HG jumper front and I'm ready to crack on with the main part.
I've done some more of the poppy. I cleared the dining room table of the mountain of crap that had been dumped on it. I baked a loaf of bread. I used the recipe that was in the half price magazine I got last night.
Just a basic white loaf.
Easy.
Proving
Shaping
Doubling
Baking
Eating! Nom
I have remade the bed - with help from Mr 18. It's a superking size feather quilt. I've the full fat version on at the minute. It's one of those that is a summer/Autumn one that separates/joins together.  And feathers are REALLY heavy yanno. Also I get all in a tiz with my previously lamented T-Rex short arms, as I pathetically try and shake it smooth!
But it's full on warm luxury because I've got a full flannellette quilt cover on and a flannellette bottom sheet! Cosy and sumptuous. I need it. No radiator in our room and the fireplace makes for a cold room! So tonight I'll have a bath before I get in it for that 'nothing in the world can beat climbing into a clean fresh bed' feeling!

I've washed some lovely gifts of fabric pieces that are destined for teddies and things. My iPhone actually wrote teddies and thongs!

A TOTALLY different picture that paints!

My good friend is calling tomorrow so I will be up with the larks to bake a cake!

Lots of love from

Rachel *Just watching Sport Relief bake off before I go get in the bath then settle down in my warm comfy clean bed sheets with a book I got off my ma in law, who got it off a lady, who got it off a lady etc * Radiostar xxx

  2. Mark is a fan of the walking dead. I wouldn't stop what I was doing to watch it but do find myself getting totally engrossed when it's on. The bread looks delicious and you are spot on about a freshly changed bed there's nothing quite like it. I get mark to help me with our quilt I can't do it on my own anymore without having to lie down for half an hour! Enjoy your friend visiting and the cake. Xx

    1. Im reading your comments from within the clouds of lovely fresh smelling bed linen. Sadly not line dried - that REALLY cranks the luxury up a notch!!

  3. Wow you have been busy, I would like to make bread again even though the breadmaker broke, but the bungalow can be cold and we have no airing cupboard so not sure if it would prove xx

    1. My kitchen is quite cold. A slow prove overnight might be the way to go for you OR put your oven on low for half an hour, leave the door open then try proving in there.

  4. Oh how we miss ER, I have the first and last series on box set, must get them out again. Fresh clean bed is the best. Enjoy your day.

    1. I have series 6 - which I get so emotional about because I loved Dr Marc Greene with all of my heart. All of it. I've never cried so much in the episodes where he died. Sigh. The last series was GENIUS how they did it.

  5. Home made bread is just the best thing . . . and yours looks fabulous. I wouldn;t willingly go back to shop bought now I am in the habit of making my own. Because it's usually just me, I have little 1lb loaf tins abnd usually make two at a time, one for now and one for the freezer.

I think I need to take a random trip to Sainsbury's this morning. I do have to get petrol too, so that's my excuse!

    Enjoy the day!

  8. That bread looks great. I agree on the fresh bed linen - the best feeling, and yes, getting in to it super clean and lovely from a shower or bath is a must. My OH mocks me for having T-Rex arms - I can't help being short any more than he can help being freakishly tall! Sounds like you are having a very productive half term.

  9. When you put on the the quilt cover do you use the inside-out-grip-the-bottom-end-opposite-corners-and-shake technique? I find large slow waves work better than rapid cycling. My arm span is more pterodactyl than T-Rex though.
(Impressive looking bread, by the way).

    1. No Philip, I prefer the lay the quilt cover on the bed then get the corners of the quilt up into the corners of the cover method. I find it easier!
